Maria D. Brown, PhD, BCC is a developmental psychologist, assessment scientist, researcher, executive coach, and educator whose work focuses on helping organizations better understand leadership, motivation, and human behavior. She is passionate about translating behavioral science into practical, evidence-based tools that improve leadership effectiveness and support meaningful individual and organizational growth.
Maria has spent more than two decades studying human development and nearly a decade leading research on leadership, motivation, and assessment at MRG Assessments. She oversees the scientific foundation of MRG’s assessments, guiding research that ensures they are psychometrically sound, relevant to today’s workplace, and grounded in the latest behavioral science. Her work also includes developing educational programs that equip coaches, consultants, and organizational practitioners around the world to confidently apply assessment insights in leadership development and executive coaching.
An internationally recognized speaker and thought leader, Maria regularly presents on leadership, motivation, assessment, coaching, and organizational development. Her research and writing have appeared in TD Magazine, Coaching Perspectives, and peer-reviewed scientific journals. She is particularly interested in bridging the gap between research and practice, helping organizations turn behavioral science into practical strategies that improve leadership and organizational effectiveness.
Before joining MRG, Maria was a university professor of psychology, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology and research methods while mentoring student researchers. She earned her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Vanderbilt University, and her academic background continues to shape her evidence-based approach to assessment science, executive coaching, and practitioner education.
Based in Kentucky, Maria enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and nurturing an ever-growing collection of tropical plants.
